Communications Systems Engineer – Unmanned Aircraft Systems

About the role

TEKEVER is seeking a Communications Systems Engineer to lead the design, integration and validation of data‑link architectures for its Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). The role bridges mission requirements with hardware implementation, ensuring reliable command‑and‑control and high‑bandwidth telemetry in contested environments.

Key responsibilities

• Define the end‑to‑end communication architecture, selecting and sizing transceivers, antennas and modems to meet range, throughput and SWaP‑C constraints.
• Lead integration of Line‑of‑Sight (LOS) and Beyond‑Line‑of‑Sight (BLOS/Satcom) links onto UAS platforms, managing interfaces and protocol stacks.
• Perform detailed link‑budget calculations across multiple frequency bands to guarantee robust connectivity for all flight profiles.
• Oversee implementation of secure military waveforms and cryptographic equipment in line with UK defence standards.
• Configure and optimise communication protocols such as TCP/IP and MAVLink for low‑latency, high‑reliability links.
• Design and execute bench‑top HIL tests, ground range trials and flight test campaigns to validate performance and EMI/EMC compliance.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in communications systems engineering for aerospace or defence applications.

Required skills

• RF and satellite communications (Satcom) design.
• Link‑budget analysis and RF link performance modelling.
• Secure military waveforms and cryptographic equipment handling.
• TCP/IP, MAVLink protocol configuration and optimisation.
• Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) testing, EMI/EMC verification.
• Integration of transceivers, antennas and modems on airborne platforms.
