Community Sports Coach

About the role

As a Community Sports Coach you will help more people become active by delivering high‑quality sport and physical activity sessions across Northumberland’s PlayZones and community venues. Working within a small, ambitious Sports Development Team, you will create inclusive opportunities that inspire participants of all ages and abilities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organise and lead engaging sport and physical activity sessions in venues such as Ashington, Newbiggin, Choppington, Bedlington, Blyth and Cramlington.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with local organisations, schools and community groups.
• Promote inclusive participation and encourage people of all abilities to take part in sport.
• Deliver sessions across a mix of daytime, evening and weekend times to meet community needs.
• Contribute to the development and evaluation of sport programmes within the council’s PlayZones.

Required profile

• Level 2 National Governing Body coaching qualification (or equivalent recognised sports coaching qualification).
• Full UK driving licence with access to transport for travelling between venues.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
• Valid First Aid qualification and up‑to‑date safeguarding training (or willingness to obtain before starting).
• Enthusiastic, organised and confident communicator with experience delivering inclusive sport sessions.
