Community Teacher

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Community Teacher to join our small secondary school in Bedford from September. The role focuses on delivering practical, community‑based learning experiences that develop students' confidence, independence and life‑skills alongside their academic progress.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging learning activities both in‑school and within the local community.
• Teach practical life‑skills such as travel training, budgeting, communication and decision‑making.
• Organise educational visits to businesses, museums, colleges and community organisations.
• Build and maintain partnerships with local employers, charities and community groups.
• Support students in preparing for adulthood, further education and future employment.
• Ensure all visits are safe, well‑planned and purposeful.

Required profile

• Qualified primary or secondary teacher with QTS (essential).
• Passion for personal development and community‑based education.
• Confident group leader comfortable in a variety of settings.
• Organised, flexible and creative in designing learning experiences.
• Strong relationship‑building skills with students, staff and community partners.
