Compliance Director (SMF16/17) – Part‑time, Remote

About the role

We are seeking a forward‑thinking Compliance Director with SMF16/17 experience to join a rapidly growing independent financial advice (IFA) firm on a fractional basis. The role is fully remote and requires a commitment of approximately one day per week, with the possibility to expand as the business scales.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight of regulatory obligations across the firm.
• Support advisor onboarding and ensure compliance with FCA guidelines.
• Collaborate with outsourced compliance support for operational tasks.
• Participate in quarterly leadership events to shape the compliance framework.
• Maintain and evolve AI‑driven suitability reporting and technology‑led processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience with SMF16 and SMF17 within an independent financial planning environment.
• Strong understanding of IFA regulatory requirements and advice processes.
• Knowledge of advisor recruitment and onboarding compliance (desirable).
• Familiarity with financial‑planning AI and technology‑driven compliance solutions (desirable).
