Compliance Manager

About the role

NG Bailey is seeking a Compliance Manager to lead health, safety and compliance for a new university building contract in Bristol. The role will work closely with the Contract Manager, providing day‑to‑day leadership and acting as the second‑in‑command on site.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver visible, hands‑on health, safety and compliance leadership, embedding a “Safety First and Foremost” culture.
• Provide expert advice on health, safety matters to the Contract Manager and operational teams.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with the client, university and site stakeholders.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews against NG Bailey and client standards.
• Investigate incidents and near‑misses, analyse root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Represent health and safety at operational meetings, client forums and safety briefings.
• Cover the Contract Manager during periods of leave, acting as recognised second‑in‑command.

Required profile

• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Level 3 health and safety qualification.
• Solid knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
• Experience in facilities management, building services or mechanical & electrical maintenance.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management abilities, with confidence to influence at all levels.
• Ability to work independently while fostering collaborative relationships across teams.

Required skills

• NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
• Understanding of UK health and safety legislation.
• Facilities management and building services experience.
