Compliance Officer

About the role

The Compliance Officer plays a central role in ensuring the organisation operates in line with all legal, regulatory, and ethical standards. You will act as a trusted advisor to the business, supporting the Board and Senior Leadership Team on compliance, regulatory, and contractual matters. You will also take on the important position of Data Protection Officer (DPO), overseeing data privacy and governance frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clear, practical advice on regulatory and contractual matters and interpret legislation such as UK GDPR in a commercial context.
• Identify, assess and mitigate compliance risks, design internal controls and conduct audits.
• Act as the organisation’s Data Protection Officer, manage Subject Access Requests and lead responses to data breaches.
• Maintain and develop internal policies, support the Integrated Management System and contribute to Board reporting.
• Deliver training, promote a culture of compliance and support managers in resolving issues.
• Collaborate with multiple departments, including IT on cyber security, and prepare for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 assessments.

Required profile

• Trainee solicitor, newly qualified solicitor, or junior lawyer.
• Experience in a compliance, risk, or governance role.
• Strong understanding of legal principles and regulatory frameworks.
