Connectivity and Messaging Engineer

About the role

Join Berenberg Bank’s Innovation & Technology team in London as a Connectivity and Messaging Engineer. You will work on ULTRA, the bank’s in‑house micro‑service platform that enables all investment‑banking trading applications to communicate securely and reliably.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain ULTRA, a Kubernetes‑deployed connectivity and messaging platform.
• Implement new exchange gateway integrations and maintain existing ones as market requirements evolve.
• Design, implement and automate comprehensive testing for 24/7 mission‑critical services.
• Collaborate with all IB engineering teams to ensure seamless inter‑system communication.
• Provide varying levels of support for the platform’s production environment.

Required profile

• Strong experience in Java development for low‑latency, high‑throughput applications.
• Deep understanding of object‑oriented analysis/design, multi‑threading, and messaging patterns.
• Hands‑on experience with the full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Solid knowledge of the FIX protocol and its engine implementations.
• Good grasp of TCP/IP, UDP, IP networking concepts such as routing tables, subnets and BGP.
