Conservation, Community and Research Lead

About the role

The Conservation, Community and Research Lead will head the strategic development, operation and quality assurance of the Animal Centre’s conservation, research and public education activities at Berkshire College of Agriculture. Reporting to senior college management, the role ensures that animal and livestock collections support outstanding learning experiences for students and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement an engagement strategy that meets BIAZA standards.
• Oversee research and conservation programmes, ensuring ethical rigour and continuous improvement of animal welfare and biodiversity.
• Lead public education initiatives and manage community outreach.
• Monitor and achieve KPIs set out in college and sector strategies.
• Foster a high‑performing culture for staff and learners aligned with college values.

Required profile

• Significant senior‑level experience managing public education programmes in zoological, land‑based or further‑education settings.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and drive sector‑leading best practices.
• Strong commitment to sustainability, animal welfare and industry engagement.

Required skills

• Knowledge of BIAZA requirements and standards.
• Experience in designing and delivering conservation and research projects.
• Ability to develop and manage community engagement strategies.
