Consultant in Palliative Medicine

About the role

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking an enthusiastic Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join a multidisciplinary team delivering Specialist Palliative Care across Lanarkshire. The role operates within an innovative ‘Hub’ model linking three acute University Hospitals and their surrounding communities, providing flexible acute and community‑based services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality specialist palliative care to patients in acute, community and hospice settings.
• Participate in the 1:9 on‑call rota covering all NHS Lanarkshire SPC services, including out‑of‑hours hospice bed management.
• Contribute to the SPC Advice and Triage line, offering remote advice and arranging in‑person reviews as needed.
• Support proactive admission avoidance through excellent symptom management and care planning.
• Engage in education, research, quality improvement and service development initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor with a recognised specialty in Palliative Medicine.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and delivering care across acute and community settings.
• Commitment to teaching, research or quality improvement activities.
• Willingness to work flexibly within the Hub model and on‑call rota.
