Consultant Orthogeriatrician – Trauma & Orthopaedics

About the role
The Consultant Orthogeriatrician will join a dynamic trauma and orthopaedic team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Working closely with the trauma surgeons, you will provide specialist medical care for patients with fractured neck of femur and other orthogeriatric conditions.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and manage unwell adult patients referred by the orthopaedic team, ensuring review within 72 hours of admission.
- Provide medical advice to ward staff and supervise Specialty Doctors to meet Best Practice Tariff and National Hip Fracture Database standards.
- Complete standardized falls and osteoporosis assessment documentation.
- Participate in daily board rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Collaborate with the Specialist Nurse for Inpatient Osteoporosis to arrange investigations and treatment.
- Communicate with patients’ relatives regarding medical issues and end‑of‑life care.
- Inform GPs of any changes to long‑term medication.
- Develop outpatient clinics or other clinical interests as appropriate.
Required profile
- Medical degree with full GMC registration.
- Experience in orthogeriatric medicine, preferably at consultant level.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with the Best Practice Tariff and National Hip Fracture Database requirements.
