Consultant Psychiatrist – Male Acute Mental Health

About the role

Join Cygnet Hospital Bury Dunes as a Consultant Psychiatrist on the new Whitehouse Ward, an 18‑bed male acute mental health unit. You will lead high‑quality, life‑changing care for men experiencing acute episodes of mental illness, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead provision of high‑quality care on Whitehouse Ward, an 18‑bed male acute mental health unit.
• Develop and oversee patient treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and a Specialty Doctor.
• Conduct assessments, mental state examinations, investigations, diagnosis and treatment, and lead ward rounds and clinical audits.
• Implement risk assessment and risk management procedures and embed clinical governance throughout the service.
• Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals, attend hearings and liaise with the Ministry of Justice on patient transfers and leave.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure regular communication with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.

Required profile

• Qualified Consultant Psychiatrist with full GMC registration and experience in acute male mental health services.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and act as a positive role model.
• Strong understanding of the Mental Health Act, risk management and clinical governance.
• Excellent communication skills with patients, families, staff and senior management.
