Contract Lawyer – Public Sector (Remote)

About the role

This contract position offers a qualified lawyer the chance to work with a respected public‑sector organisation, providing specialist legal advice on a variety of local authority matters. The role is remote with occasional court attendance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality legal advice to members and officers of the authority.
• Manage a varied caseload covering property, planning, litigation, commercial contracts and housing.
• Draft, review and negotiate legal documents and support transactional work.
• Attend and advise at committees, meetings and, when required, courts or tribunals.
• Support governance processes by reviewing reports and ensuring legal compliance.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEx (or equivalent experience).
• Strong experience advising on public‑sector or local‑authority matters.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Confident communicator with strong relationship‑building skills.
• Commercially aware with excellent drafting and analytical abilities.
