Contract Senior Bookkeeper and Outsourced Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a Contract Senior Bookkeeper and Outsourced Accountant to join a well‑established chartered accountancy practice in Wells for a period of six to twelve months. The role combines remote bookkeeping work for a mixed‑industry client base with one day per week on‑site support as an outsourced accountant.

Key responsibilities

• Provide bookkeeping services up to the extended trial balance for various clients.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns and manage CIS payroll where required.
• Compile year‑end accounts and ensure compliance with statutory deadlines.
• Act as an outsourced accountant on‑site one day a week, supporting managers and directors.
• Deliver high‑quality client service and maintain accurate financial records.

Required profile

• Qualified (AAT, ACCA, ACA) or equivalent experience in an accountancy practice.
• Minimum three to four years of experience in bookkeeping, VAT, CIS, payroll or accounts preparation.
• Proven ability to work independently and support senior team members.

What we offer

• Salary between £30,000 and £40,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
