Controls Engineer – Project Management

About the role

Do you have a strong technical background in industrial control and automation and are looking for a new challenge in an established engineering business? You will join a specialist firm delivering projects across water, wastewater, utilities, energy and industrial process sectors, acting as the technical lead on site‑based projects.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct site surveys and assess existing PLC, SCADA and instrumentation systems.
• Define scopes of work, technical requirements and system upgrade strategies.
• Estimate project effort, materials and costs for ICA/control system upgrades.
• Produce functional design specifications.
• Support the full project lifecycle through commissioning and handover.
• Collaborate with design, commissioning and delivery teams while maintaining ownership of technical outcomes.

Required profile

• Strong background in Industrial Control & Automation (ICA), EC&I or Controls Engineering.
• Experience delivering projects with hands‑on technical responsibility.
• Ability to commute to Reading and surrounding areas.
