Cook Manager

About the role

The Cook Manager will lead the kitchen team at Civitas Academy Primary School, delivering fresh, nutritious meals to students each day. This is a term‑time, 30‑hour per week position with no weekend or late‑night shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage day‑to‑day kitchen operations.
• Prepare and serve fresh, balanced meals for pupils.
• Oversee stock control, ordering and budget management.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and health‑and‑safety regulations.
• Monitor food quality, presentation and portion control.
• Manage allergen awareness and cater for special dietary requirements.
• Build positive relationships with staff, students and the wider school community.
• Maintain accurate records such as HACCP logs, temperature checks and audit reports.
• Inspire and develop the kitchen team, fostering a supportive environment.

Required profile

• Commitment to safeguarding children and young people.
• Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate (required).
• NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 (highly desirable).
• Passion for delivering fresh, nutritious meals.
• Proven leadership experience in a kitchen or catering setting.
• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Confidence in managing budgets, stock and kitchen operations.
• Knowledge of food safety, allergens and school food standards.

Required skills

• Food Hygiene Level 2 certification.
• HACCP knowledge and record‑keeping.
• Stock control and budgeting competence.
• Allergen management and special‑diet catering.
