Cost Accountant – Engineering

About the role

We are a growing engineering business seeking a Cost Accountant to join our finance team. Based in the Derry area, you will support multiple engineering sites, providing accurate costing data and financial insight to drive operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and analyse product cost data across several engineering locations.
• Develop and maintain standard costing methodologies.
• Prepare detailed variance, margin and cost‑analysis reports.
• Review material, labour and production variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with annual standard cost updates, inventory valuation reviews and margin analysis.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, supply chain and commercial teams to ensure costing accuracy.
• Become a key user of the SAP costing system and support process improvements.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and cost‑saving initiatives.
• Present financial insights and recommendations to management.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of costing systems and accounting principles.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience preparing and interpreting regular financial reports.
• Proven ability to work with production, engineering or operations teams.
• Strong communication skills and stakeholder influence.
