Cover Supervisor – Secondary School (Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for an adaptable and confident Cover Supervisor to support a secondary school in Oakley during teacher absences. The role starts in September 2026 and offers valuable experience across a range of subjects for graduates, aspiring teachers, or experienced youth workers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead lessons in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring set work is completed to a high standard.
• Apply the school’s behaviour management policies to maintain an orderly and respectful classroom.
• Assist pupils with queries and keep them motivated and on‑track.
• Collect completed work and provide clear handover notes for the returning teacher.
• Adhere to all school policies, including safeguarding, child welfare, and health & safety.

Required profile

• Reliable, proactive and able to command respect in a classroom setting.
• Prior experience working with secondary‑aged young people (coaching, youth work, tutoring, etc.) is highly desirable.
• Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills.
• Flexibility to step into different subject areas on short notice.
• Good standard of general education (degree level or equivalent preferred, but not essential).
• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service.
