Cover Supervisor – Secondary Schools (Temporary)

About the role

Prospero Teaching is recruiting Cover Supervisors to work across secondary schools in the Barking and Dagenham borough of East London. The role is temporary and day‑by‑day, covering absent teachers for any year group. You will be expected to deliver set work, maintain a positive learning environment and support pupils throughout the lesson.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise pupils while they complete work prepared by the class teacher.
• Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
• Answer pupils’ questions about tasks, processes and procedures.
• Handle any immediate issues or emergencies according to school guidelines.
• Collect completed work and return it to the appropriate teacher.
• Report on pupil behaviour and any incidents using the school’s referral system.

Required profile

• Passion for teaching and a genuine interest in supporting young learners.
• Minimum GCSE qualifications.
• Reliability and punctuality.
• Willingness to develop classroom management skills.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of school policies and procedures.
