CP Chair – Safeguarding and Reviewing Officer

About the role

This position supports Leeds City Council by chairing Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences on behalf of the safeguarding children’s board. The role ensures that children’s wishes are heard and that families are appropriately involved.

Key responsibilities

• Chair Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences, representing the safeguarding board.
• Ensure the child’s wishes and feelings are reflected, even when the child is not present.
• Facilitate parental and extended family attendance where appropriate.
• Participate in a monitoring system to verify attendance and implementation of child protection plans.
• Collect and analyse information from reviews and conferences for policy and practice improvement.
• Contribute to monitoring reports submitted to senior management.

Required profile

• Experience in child protection, safeguarding, or related public sector work.
• Strong understanding of inter‑agency collaboration and child welfare legislation.
• Ability to communicate sensitively with children, families, and professionals.
• Commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals and maintaining confidentiality.
