About the role
The Crime, Security & BTP Liaison Lead will manage and champion the delivery of national security, crime and suicide prevention strategies across the DFTO rail network. Acting as the primary point of contact with British Transport Police, the role ensures effective tactical crime engagement and supports the rail operators in improving safety and performance.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and deliver national operational security, crime and suicide prevention strategies and associated improvement work streams.
- Own the day‑to‑day relationship with British Transport Police, monitoring performance and service levels.
- Analyse railway crime trends with DFTO analysts to inform national and local decision‑making.
- Develop and implement performance improvement schemes to mitigate police‑related external delays.
- Create business cases for performance enhancement projects both within and outside Network Rail.
- Support DFTO train operating companies (TOCs) in delivering continuous improvement plans.
- Provide subject‑matter expertise to influence TOCs, British Transport Police, local government and other stakeholders.
- Identify process gaps across group security teams and propose efficiency and compliance improvements.
- Lead lessons‑learned and case‑specific reviews to refine security and anti‑crime processes.
- Oversee security and emergency plans for TOCs, fostering a strong security culture.
Required profile
- Proven experience managing national security, crime or suicide prevention programmes.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with law‑enforcement agencies, particularly British Transport Police.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret crime data and drive evidence‑based decisions.
- Experience developing business cases and leading performance‑improvement projects.
- Ability to influence multiple stakeholders across the rail sector and public sector.
- Track record of identifying process gaps and implementing compliance‑focused improvements.
