Criminal Paralegal

About the role

A respected law firm in Reading is looking for a motivated Criminal Paralegal to join its busy Criminal Defence team. This full‑time position offers hands‑on experience with a wide range of criminal matters and strong mentorship from experienced solicitors.

Key responsibilities

• Managing and preparing case files
• Taking initial client instructions and conducting client interviews
• Attending police stations (with training) and preparing briefs
• Conducting legal research and gathering evidence
• Drafting documents, statements, applications, and correspondence
• Liaising with courts, counsel, probation, and external agencies
• Ensuring all casework complies with deadlines, policies, and professional standards

Required profile

• At least 6 months experience in criminal law or related legal support
• Genuine interest in criminal defence and justice
• Strong communication skills and resilience
• Ability to stay organised under pressure
• Proactive, committed and professional handling of sensitive situations
• Law degree, LPC or equivalent preferred but not essential
