About the role
The Curriculum Leader of Drama will head the Drama department at a school in Reading, overseeing the design and delivery of a vibrant, high‑quality drama programme. This senior teaching position combines curriculum development, staff mentorship and the coordination of productions to enrich student learning.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Drama department, ensuring curriculum planning, delivery and assessment meet national standards.
- Design, review and update the drama curriculum to reflect best practice and cater for a range of abilities.
- Monitor teaching and learning, using data to drive continuous improvement and outstanding student outcomes.
- Mentor and support drama teachers, facilitating professional development and sharing best practice.
- Organise drama productions, performances and extracurricular activities.
- Manage departmental resources, including budgeting for equipment, materials and facilities.
- Promote student engagement, creativity and confidence through drama.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and other curriculum leaders on whole‑school initiatives.
- Ensure health and safety compliance for all drama activities.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification for the UK.
- Degree in Drama, Theatre Studies, Performing Arts or a closely related field.
- Proven experience in leading a drama department or similar curriculum leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and evaluate curriculum and assessment strategies.
- Strong organisational and budgeting skills.
