Custody Healthcare Practitioner

About the role

We are looking for a dynamic Custody Healthcare Practitioner to join a specialised team delivering urgent and long‑term medical care within police custody suites across London. The role combines clinical expertise with the ability to support detainees who have complex medical and mental health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Assess detainees, develop and implement tailored care plans for vulnerable individuals.
• Provide clinical guidance to custody staff and ensure accurate health and police records.
• Respond to and lead clinical emergencies, including urgent medical interventions.
• Collect forensic samples to assist police investigations.
• Maintain health, safety and welfare standards for all detainees.

Required profile

• Registered Adult Nurse, Mental Health Nurse or Paramedic with a valid HCPC or NMC PIN.
• Previous experience working in police or HMP custody environments.
• Eligibility to work in the UK.
• Competent in venepuncture from day one.
• Capability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
