Custody Nurse Practitioner – Police & HMP Experience

About the role

We are looking for a dynamic Registered Nurse with police or HMP custody experience to join a specialist custody suite team across London. The role involves delivering urgent and long‑term medical care to detainees, supporting mental health needs and ensuring safety within the custody environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the health, safety and welfare of detainees in police custody.
• Assess patients and develop tailored care plans for complex medical and mental‑health conditions.
• Provide clinical guidance to custody staff and ensure accurate clinical and police records.
• Lead and respond to clinical emergencies within the custody suite.
• Collect forensic samples to assist police investigations.

Required profile

• Valid NMC PIN and eligibility to work in the UK.
• Previous experience in custody healthcare (Police or HMP).
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Competent in venepuncture from day one.
• Competency level equivalent to NHS Band 6.
