Customs Entry Clerk

About the role

We are looking for an Import Declarant to join our customs and freight forwarding team in Felixstowe. The role focuses on handling import customs clearances for sea and air freight, ensuring accurate and compliant declarations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit import customs declarations using the Descartes platform.
• Process approximately 10 deep‑sea and Middle Eastern ocean freight entries.
• Support clearance of around 15 mixed‑origin air freight shipments.
• Review and verify shipping and customs documentation before entry submission.
• Check tariff classifications and amend declarations according to importer agreements and country‑of‑origin rules.
• Collect and process UCN information.
• Liaise with customers, carriers and internal teams to resolve customs queries.
• Assist customs activities at key UK ports including Felixstowe, Southampton and London Gateway.

Required profile

• Previous experience in customs clearance or import declaration (preferred).
• Good understanding of customs documentation and classification processes.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple shipments.

What we offer

• Salary £28,000 – £32,000 per year, dependent on experience.
