Cycle Instructor (Flexible Hours)

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Cycle Instructor to deliver Bikeability training for children and young people in Hull. The role involves travelling between sites, loading equipment and supporting safe, active travel across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the delivery of National Standard Cycle training as organised by First Step Sports.
• Load equipment and drive to sessions, ensuring safe transport of bicycles and gear.
• Complete course paperwork, including registers, assessments, reports and results.
• Carry out risk assessments of trainees, cycles and training areas, including on‑road locations.
• Accountable for the safety and welfare of colleagues and trainees.
• Deliver training in line with First Step Sports’ health and safety policy and accident reporting procedures.
• Promote cycling as a safe, healthy means of transport and encourage active travel.
• Dress professionally according to the First Step Sports uniform.

Required profile

• Regular, competent cyclist with an understanding of road and traffic environments.
• Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and schools.
• Decisive, disciplined, confident and encouraging.
• First Aid and Child Protection training (provided if lacking).
• Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• Basic knowledge of cycle maintenance (desirable).
