Data Center Energy Lead – EMEA

About the role

Anthropic is looking for a senior Energy Lead to secure multi‑hundred megawatt power capacity for its AI compute data centres across the EU. Based in Europe, you will work at the intersection of energy markets, grid connection processes and AI infrastructure planning to enable rapid scaling of compute resources.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute creative energy deployment models (grid‑connected, behind‑the‑meter, etc.) that minimise time to energisation while preserving social licence.
• Lead procurement and market‑strategy activities to secure 100 + MW of power capacity through wholesale electricity markets, capacity mechanisms and utility partnerships.
• Manage relationships with TSOs, DSOs, national regulators and ACER to accelerate connection timelines and unlock constrained capacity.
• Monitor EU network codes, national grid codes and policy developments, and engage policymakers to address grid‑capacity challenges.
• Translate market dynamics and grid constraints into actionable capacity‑acceleration plans aligned with engineering delivery schedules.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience in energy procurement, utility development or power‑market work for large‑scale infrastructure projects, with extensive exposure to multiple European jurisdictions.
• Deep knowledge of EU electricity markets (day‑ahead, intraday, balancing), national capacity mechanisms and transmission system planning (ENTSO‑E Ten‑Year Network Development Plans).
• Proven track record of securing 100 + MW of power capacity and negotiating PPAs or other offtake agreements in Europe.
• Strong stakeholder‑management skills with TSOs, DSOs, national regulators (e.g., BNetzA, CRU) and policy bodies.

• Expertise in EU electricity market analysis and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience structuring Power Purchase Agreements and other offtake contracts.
• Ability to conduct transmission planning and grid‑connection studies.
• Advanced communication skills to convey complex grid and policy issues to technical and non‑technical audiences.
