Data Centre Engineer – London

About the role

Data Centre Engineers are responsible for the full lifecycle of all managed hardware hosted within Claranet UK data centres, providing remote assistance for colocation customers and supporting facility operations to maximise uptime. The role is based at the Hoddesdon Data Centre (EN11) with occasional travel to other UK sites. Shifts run 7:00 am‑7:00 pm, Monday‑Friday, with an on‑call rota for escalations outside normal hours.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair hardware faults, installing spares or components as required.
• Provide “hands‑and‑eyes” support to internal teams and external customers.
• Install and de‑commission managed equipment in data centres and at customer sites.
• Perform routine maintenance on server and network equipment to maintain maximum uptime.
• Accept and own fault escalations from internal teams.
• Conduct regular physical checks of data‑centre facilities and produce monthly statistics.
• Document equipment, service configurations and hardware solutions.
• Carry out physical audits and security checks as required.
• Manage access control, allowing only authorised personnel into the facilities.
• Update and maintain asset databases following any equipment changes.

Required profile

• Proven experience with data‑centre hardware lifecycle and maintenance.
• Willingness to work rotating day‑shifts and participate in an on‑call rota.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, visiting engineers and internal teams.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 security standards.
• Ability to travel to other UK sites when required.
• Self‑motivated and able to work independently.
