Data Engineer – Core Data & Reporting

About the role

We are seeking a talented Core Data Engineer to join the Group Technology team in Milton Keynes. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality reporting data across all Connells Group brands, shaping architecture, data modelling and pipelines. The role works in a hybrid model, with one day a week on‑site.

Key responsibilities

• Apply best practices for data design, ensuring scalable, high‑quality architecture and modelling.
• Provide timely root‑cause analysis and resolution within SLA timeframes.
• Collaborate with the Core Data Lead to build unified work plans aligned with business objectives.
• Work with Reporting Engineers to define, develop and enhance the Common Data Model.
• Design and develop data ingestion processes from multiple sources.
• Maintain the Common Data Model for organisation‑wide consistency.
• Ensure data pipeline quality, reliability, performance and security.
• Develop, test and implement monitoring solutions for effective operation.
• Support cross‑functional data projects and proactively monitor systems to minimise disruption.

Required profile

• Proven experience in data engineering with strong hands‑on Python, data modelling and warehousing.
• Solid background in incident resolution, change management and problem‑solving within SLA limits.
• Experience delivering pipelines in demanding environments using Spark, SQL and Delta Lake.
• Strong communication skills and confidence presenting technical ideas.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure with both legacy and modern technologies.
