Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric & Power BI

About the role
We are partnering with a fast‑growing, data‑driven organisation in Birmingham to hire a Data Engineer who will own the end‑to‑end data platform. The role is hands‑on, focused on building a modern stack within Microsoft Fabric and delivering Power BI reporting that supports marketing, sales, finance and operations.
Key responsibilities
- Design and build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines in Microsoft Fabric using PySpark and SQL.
- Develop transformation logic in Fabric Lakehouses with Delta Lake and medallion architecture.
- Integrate data from e‑commerce, ticketing and marketing platforms via APIs and native connectors (GA4, Google Ads, Meta Ads, affiliates).
- Own data quality, monitoring and governance across the platform.
- Design dimensional data models (star schema) and maintain Power BI semantic models with DAX, KPIs and row‑level security.
- Deliver dashboards and reports for commercial, marketing and operational performance.
- Support analytics use cases such as attribution modelling, cohort analysis and customer segmentation.
- Translate business requirements into data solutions and present insights to stakeholders.
- Promote best practices in documentation, version control and data engineering.
Required profile
- Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, pipelines); Azure Data Factory experience is also acceptable.
- Advanced SQL skills and solid experience with PySpark.
- Proficiency in Python for data processing and API integration.
- Proven experience building Power BI models and dashboards for business reporting.
- Deep understanding of ETL/ELT design and data‑modelling principles.
- Experience integrating third‑party data via REST APIs.
- Knowledge of data quality, monitoring and governance practices.
- Experience using Git or similar version‑control tools.
- Comfortable working independently in a hands‑on capacity.
