Data Engineering Lead – SME Banking (Hybrid, London)

About the role

We are seeking a Data Engineering Lead to head a small team within a specialist bank that is on a journey to become fully data‑driven. Based in London with a hybrid working model, you will own data delivery and help shape a modern cloud data platform built on Snowflake, supporting analytics, reporting and business decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of data engineers.
• Design, build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Drive improvements in data platform tooling, orchestration and CI/CD.
• Define and enforce engineering standards and best practices.
• Collaborate with architecture, BI and business teams to deliver solutions.
• Ensure data quality, reliability and performance across all pipelines.
• Support the evolution of a modern cloud data platform.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a Lead or Senior Data Engineering role.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Snowflake.
• Expertise in ETL/ELT and orchestration tools such as Airflow, dbt or Matillion.
• Excellent SQL and Python programming skills.
• Experience building scalable data platforms in cloud environments.
• Previous experience leading or mentoring engineers.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
