Data Governance Lead

About the role

SGN is looking for a Data Governance Lead to mature its data ownership capability across the organisation. You will embed foundational data ownership, ensuring data owners understand and manage their data in collaboration with IT to support business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the rollout of SGN’s data governance framework, establishing data ownership and decision rights for critical datasets.
• Provide secretariat support for domain data governance forums, including attendance coordination and action tracking.
• Report progress against the data‑ownership maturity roadmap and KPIs to Information Management sponsors and other stakeholders.
• Build relationships with business teams, IT, and specialist SMEs across priority domains such as HR, Finance, and Operations.
• Collaborate with data architects to create and maintain conceptual data models and data flow diagrams.
• Coach data owners on responsibilities, including identifying critical data, creating glossaries, raising data‑risk issues, and improving data quality.
• Manage SGN’s enterprise data catalogue and business data glossary.
• Promote a data‑driven culture through awareness, education, and training on data governance principles.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in data governance and data management, including running governance forums.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at all organisational levels.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with business, IT, and data‑architecture teams.
• Experience coaching data owners and driving data‑quality improvements.
