Data Scientist – Credit Risk & Decisioning

About the role

Join a fast‑growing UK fintech lender as a Data Scientist focused on credit risk and decisioning. You will transform application, credit bureau and Open Banking data into scorecards, policies and pricing models that determine who receives credit, at what cost, and how the portfolio performs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, test and monitor risk policies, scorecards and pricing rules, including affordability and fraud controls.
• Quantify the impact of these models on approvals, losses and overall profitability.
• Track portfolio performance using vintage, cohort and early‑warning analyses.
• Build reusable analytical pipelines and tooling in Python and SQL.
• Support pricing, affordability and loss‑forecasting initiatives and create dashboards for internal stakeholders and funders.

Required profile

• Strong degree (2:1 or higher) in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or quantitative Economics.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL with a solid grounding in statistical and machine‑learning techniques.
• Experience in credit risk, data science or another quantitative role; years of experience are less important than ability.
• Exposure to financial services or lending is a plus; familiarity with credit bureaus and Open Banking is beneficial but not mandatory.
