Database & Data Engineer – Remote (UK)

About the role

We are seeking a Database / Data Engineer to own data structuring, retrieval, caching and optimisation across a high‑volume, real‑time platform. You will work remotely from anywhere in the UK, collaborating with developers and DevOps to ensure the system scales efficiently as data volumes grow.

Key responsibilities

• Optimise PostgreSQL queries, indexes, and database structures.
• Investigate slow queries and performance bottlenecks.
• Design efficient data retrieval and access patterns, including views and materialised views.
• Review and improve Redis usage for caching and real‑time data.
• Determine appropriate strategies for caching, persisting, or archiving data.
• Monitor database health, performance, and query load.
• Support database security, resilience, backups and recovery.

Required profile

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and SQL.
• Proven ability to design databases, index effectively and tune query performance.
• Hands‑on experience analysing slow queries and query plans.
• Experience with Redis or similar in‑memory caching technologies.
• Background working with high‑volume, real‑time or time‑sensitive data.
• Ability to collaborate closely with software developers.
