Debate Performance Coach

About the role

Brighton College is looking for a Debate Performance Coach to join its vibrant Debate Society on a permanent part‑time basis starting October 2026. The role involves delivering weekly workshops, providing one‑to‑one coaching, and supporting pupils in national competitions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver a 90‑minute interactive workshop each Thursday (4:00 pm‑5:30 pm) covering skill‑based and content‑based material.
• Provide private, small‑group coaching sessions for the most talented pupils on Thursday afternoons.
• Create and distribute resources such as PowerPoint presentations and case files for pupil reference.
• Assist the Head of Debate in team selection for competitions and in organising the Brighton College Schools’ Competition.
• Accompany pupils to UK debate competitions when required and give constructive feedback.
• Organise and oversee internal tournaments, hosted rounds, and sparring sessions with other schools.

Required profile

• Strong British Parliamentary speaking record, ideally with success at major international tournaments (e.g., EUDC, Australs, WUDC/WSDC).
• Ability to create an engaged, supportive classroom atmosphere and work independently.
• Passion for developing young debaters and willingness to provide support outside scheduled sessions.
• Desirable: prior coaching experience at school or university level, availability on term‑time weekends, high‑level judging experience, and experience convening competitions.
