Debt Recovery Officer

About the role

The Debt Recovery Officer will be responsible for recovering and enforcing collections on a range of council debts, including Council Tax and sundry accounts. The role operates within a hybrid model, requiring 1‑2 days per week in the Brent office.

Key responsibilities

• Recover and enforce collection for debts such as Council Tax (NEC) and sundry accounts using Oracle Advanced Collections.
• Manage any debt recovery portfolio held by the Council, ensuring efficient and objective recovery.
• Protect the Council’s financial interests by adhering to the Debt Recovery policy and relevant legislation.
• Ensure all collections comply with current case law, local policy and statutory requirements.

Required profile

• Excellent verbal and written negotiation skills for debt recovery.
• Strong numerical, analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• Understanding of delivering high‑quality customer service in a diverse environment.
• Knowledge of debt recovery and enforcement processes related to county or magistrates’ courts.
