Deputy Charge Nurse

About the role

The Deputy Charge Nurse will support the Charge Nurse in delivering high‑quality, compassionate care at Western General Hospital. Key responsibilities

• Assist the Charge Nurse in managing day‑to‑day ward operations and patient flow.
• Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to nursing staff, ensuring safe and effective care.
• Contribute to the implementation of the Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Plan, promoting the organisation’s values and ambitions.
• Support staff induction, preceptorship and ongoing professional development.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to maintain high standards of patient safety and quality.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with experience in acute care settings.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities, compassion and a commitment to patient‑centred care.
• Alignment with NHS Lothian’s values of diversity, inclusion and continuous improvement.
• Willingness to engage in competency‑based recruitment and interview processes.
