About the role

The Deputy Charge Nurse will support the delivery of high‑quality, compassionate care at Western General Hospital. Reporting to the Charge Nurse, this role combines clinical expertise with strong leadership to foster a supportive and inclusive nursing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Charge Nurse in managing day‑to‑day ward operations and patient flow.
• Lead and mentor nursing staff, promoting professional development and adherence to the NHS Scotland Strategic Plan.
• Ensure safe, effective, and person‑centred care in line with clinical governance standards.
• Collaborate with the Clinical Education and Training team to deliver induction, preceptorship and ongoing education.
• Champion diversity, equality and inclusion initiatives across the unit.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with experience in a senior or supervisory role.
• Demonstrated commitment to NHS values, diversity and inclusive practice.
• Strong communication and team‑building abilities.
• Passion for developing staff and improving patient outcomes.
