Deputy Education Manager

About the role

The Deputy Education Manager will work alongside the Education Manager to lead a dedicated education department within a secure custodial environment. This fast‑paced leadership position directly supports adult learners, helping them acquire qualifications that can reduce re‑offending and improve life prospects.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the education department, including staff deployment and management of physical resources.
• Lead curriculum development and innovation to ensure engaging, flexible provision that maximises student retention and success.
• Manage staff performance, inductions, appraisals and professional development to foster a collaborative team culture.
• Assist with departmental budgeting, monitor expenditure and use data analysis to drive improvements in teaching quality.
• Build and maintain relationships with senior management, community partners and employers to align education goals with external opportunities.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent, recognised teaching qualification and a leadership/management qualification (or willingness to obtain one).
• Proven management experience in an educational setting.
• Strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and a “can‑do” attitude.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to create an aspirational culture for staff and learners.
