Deputy Head of Risk – 6‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

We are partnering with a major global law firm to recruit a Deputy Head of Risk on a six‑month fixed‑term basis. You will lead the firm’s day‑to‑day AML and financial‑crime compliance activities, acting as the primary escalation point for complex matters and supporting partners and fee‑earners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage AML and financial‑crime compliance processes across the firm.
• Provide escalation support for AML, sanctions and related investigations.
• Oversee the Business Acceptance Team, delivering regulatory guidance and training.
• Advise on sanctions compliance and assist the MLRO with law‑enforcement and regulator interactions.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with evolving UK AML legislation and best practice.
• Direct the annual AML Risk Assessment and coordinate an independent AML audit.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in Business Acceptance within a law‑firm environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK AML regulations and financial‑crime obligations.
• Proven track record delivering AML risk assessments, audits or regulatory reviews.
• Ability to interpret complex information, identify risks and make evidence‑based recommendations.
• Significant experience in AML, financial‑crime, risk or compliance at a senior or supervisory level.
