Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home

About the role

Our client, a leading provider of children’s residential care in Milton Keynes, is seeking a Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in delivering high‑quality, therapeutic care for vulnerable children and young people.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Registered Manager in overall leadership and day‑to‑day operations of the home.
• Act as the Registered Manager’s deputy during absences.
• Lead, motivate and develop a team of Residential Support Workers.
• Promote a nurturing, therapeutic, relationship‑based approach to care.
• Prioritise safeguarding and ensure the welfare of all children.
• Oversee care planning, risk assessments, behaviour support plans and maintain accurate records.
• Monitor quality standards, drive continuous improvement and support Ofsted inspections and audits.
• Build positive relationships with local authorities, social workers, education providers, healthcare professionals and families.

Required profile

• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or commitment to achieve within required timescales).
• Minimum two years’ experience in a children’s residential setting.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience in residential childcare.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and Children’s Homes Regulations (2015).
• Experience in producing care plans, risk assessments and maintaining high‑quality records.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational abilities.
• Compassionate, resilient and child‑focused attitude.
• Full UK driving licence.

Required skills

• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
• Understanding of safeguarding legislation and Children’s Homes Regulations.
• Experience with care planning, risk assessment and record‑keeping systems.
