Deputy Manager / Team Leader – Residential Childcare

About the role

This position supports the Registered Manager of a residential childcare home, ensuring high‑quality care, safeguarding and effective team leadership. You will act as deputy in the manager’s absence and help drive positive outcomes for children and young people.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Registered Manager with the home’s Statement of Purpose and operational standards.
• Provide day‑to‑day leadership, covering the manager’s duties when absent.
• Maintain safe, inclusive environments and uphold safeguarding procedures.
• Ensure care plans, risk assessments and statutory documentation are up‑to‑date.
• Collaborate with social workers, health professionals, families and external agencies.
• Guide staff through supervision, training, recruitment and retention activities.
• Coordinate shift planning, staffing levels and oversee home operations.
• Promote wellbeing and implement Positive Behaviour Plans for young people.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an Assistant Manager, Deputy Manager, Team Leader or Senior Residential Support Worker in a children’s residential setting.
• Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Workforce or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 1 year experience working in a children’s residential home or related services.
• Demonstrated knowledge of safeguarding and child welfare legislation.
• Experience supervising and supporting a care team.
