Design Engineer – Advanced Technical Services (ATS)

About the role

Robert Bird Group is expanding its Advanced Technical Services (ATS) team and is looking for a Design Engineer with a strong analytical mindset and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges. The role offers the opportunity to work on high‑profile, technically demanding projects across sectors such as sports stadiums, transport infrastructure, high‑rise buildings and emerging energy projects.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver detailed structural design, calculations, and technical documentation.
• Build, analyse, and check numerical models, including nonlinear, dynamic, seismic, thermal, and progressive collapse modelling.
• Support projects from concept design through detailed design and construction phases.
• Apply RBG construction engineering methods, standards, and technical procedures.
• Design and oversee drafting of temporary works such as falsework, support towers, access platforms, and lifting beams.
• Develop construction sequencing and crane erection schemes for complex structures.
• Conduct site inspections, liaise with site teams, and integrate findings into engineering outputs.
• Coordinate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary internal teams.
• Support project resource planning, programming, scheduling, and progress monitoring.
• Implement Quality Assurance (QA) procedures across all deliverables.

Required profile

• Experience in advanced structural analysis and performance‑based design.
• Ability to work on large‑scale, technically demanding projects in a collaborative environment.
