Design Engineer – Commercial Refrigeration

About the role

We are seeking a Design Engineer to join an established manufacturer of bespoke commercial equipment. You will work on technically challenging refrigeration projects in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment, helping to bring concepts through to production.

Key responsibilities

• Design commercial refrigeration equipment for the retail sector using SolidWorks 3D CAD.
• Create detailed engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation.
• Develop sheet‑metal components and assemblies with a focus on manufacturability, quality and cost.
• Collaborate with UK and overseas suppliers to resolve technical issues and support production.
• Liaise with manufacturing, purchasing, quality and engineering teams throughout product development.
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from concept to production.
• Ensure designs meet customer requirements, manufacturing constraints and industry standards.
• Assist with product testing, validation and compliance activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience using SolidWorks in a manufacturing or product design environment.
• Strong sheet‑metal design experience and ability to produce detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Excellent attention to detail with engineering documentation.
• Effective communication skills for working with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Good project management and organisational abilities.
• Experience in commercial refrigeration or related manufacturing is highly desirable.
• Basic understanding of refrigeration systems and associated engineering principles is a plus.
