Design Engineer – Façade Specialist

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join our growing Glasgow-based team delivering complex architectural façade systems. The role blends technical design, commercial estimating and close collaboration with clients, suppliers and our internal fabrication team from tender stage through to delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare façade and shop drawings in AutoCAD, including curtain walls, punched windows, fixed lights and door ironmongery.
• Develop detailed design solutions, interpreting architectural and structural drawings to produce coordinated façade designs.
• Apply façade principles such as glass specification, wind and barrier loads, drainage, thermal performance and waterproofing.
• Liaise with design office and fabrication teams to ensure buildable, practical solutions.
• Support design approvals, revisions and technical submissions.
• Review tender documents, produce cost estimates, material take‑offs and competitive quotations.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes, identify risks and opportunities for value engineering.
• Prepare and submit tender documentation within deadlines and assist with project hand‑over.

Required profile

• 5‑10 years’ experience in façade design, estimating or a combined role.
• Strong background in steel façade systems (aluminium systems also considered).
• High proficiency in AutoCAD and ability to read architectural/structural drawings.
• Good commercial awareness, numeracy and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple live workloads.
