Design Engineer

About the role

The Design Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and will be responsible for developing bespoke baling machinery from concept through to delivery. Based in Dungannon, the role involves managing multiple projects, coordinating with customers and manufacturing, and travelling to sites for installation and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop initial concept drawings and models for customers.
• Evolve concepts into detailed designs that integrate mechanical, hydraulic and electrical features.
• Create detailed engineering drawings for manufacturing.
• Modify existing designs to accommodate bespoke customer changes.
• Manage customer queries throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate with the manufacturing team to keep projects on schedule.
• Maintain technical specifications and user documentation.
• Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and ensure engineering deliverables meet project timelines.
• Travel to customer sites to oversee installations, commissioning, and provide after‑sales support.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in heavy‑engineering design.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D modelling using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Strong time‑management, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
• Analytical, logical thinker with solid problem‑solving abilities.
• Willingness to travel and a valid driving licence.
• Desirable: experience with Pulse PDM system, hydraulic design, and electrical design.
