Design Manager – MEP (Construction)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced MEP Design Manager to lead the coordination, development and delivery of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing design packages for major infrastructure projects on the outskirts of Birmingham. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs are safe, compliant, buildable and delivered on programme.

Key responsibilities

• Support the delivery of MEP design packages throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate design interfaces between MEP, civil, structural and architectural disciplines.
• Review design submissions, technical documentation and specifications.
• Assist with design assurance, verification and approval processes.
• Participate in design reviews, risk workshops and value‑engineering exercises.
• Monitor design progress and help resolve technical issues.
• Work with construction teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable.
• Manage design changes and configuration control procedures.
• Maintain accurate design records, reports and project documentation.
• Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Previous experience in MEP design, building services engineering, design coordination or engineering management.
• Strong knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems.
• Experience on large‑scale construction, infrastructure or complex building projects.
• Understanding of design management processes, technical assurance and risk management.
• Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage design interfaces.
• Excellent organisational, planning and stakeholder communication skills.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused approach to problem solving.
