Detective Constable – Metropolitan Police

About the role

Join the Metropolitan Police as a Detective Constable and support victims of crime while investigating serious offences across London. You will follow a four‑year Detective Constable Entry Programme that combines frontline policing with specialist detective training.

Key responsibilities

• Support victims of crime, including vulnerable adults and children.
• Investigate offences, gather and assess evidence, and prepare cases for court.
• Undertake search warrants, make arrests, and see cases through to prosecution.
• Work on a variety of investigations such as missing persons, public protection and high‑risk crimes.

Required profile

• Commitment to the Met’s values of integrity, courage, accountability, respect and empathy.
• Willingness to work 24‑hour shifts, nights and weekends.
• Minimum academic qualification: a degree (Level 6).
• Age 18 – 57, UK residency for the past three years, and ability to pass fitness and medical assessments.

Required skills

• Ability to interview victims, witnesses and suspects.
• Competence in gathering, analysing and documenting evidence.
• Understanding of risk management for victims and witnesses.
