Development Engineer – Mechanical Design (East Sussex)

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Development Engineer to join a well‑established engineering and manufacturing business in East Sussex. This junior‑level position is ideal for recent Mechanical Engineering graduates who are eager to apply their SolidWorks expertise to the creation of innovative products from concept through to production.

Key responsibilities

• Support the design and development of new products using SolidWorks, creating 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings.
• Produce technical documentation, bills of materials and maintain revision control.
• Assist with product testing, validation activities and drive continuous improvement based on test results and customer feedback.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet project milestones and ensure designs are manufacturable.
• Participate in design reviews, prototype builds and contribute ideas for product enhancements.
• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing teams to verify production readiness.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience with product or industrial design gained through placements, projects or coursework.
• Proactive, hands‑on attitude with strong problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills, capable of working both independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• SolidWorks for 3D modelling and engineering drawing creation.
• Understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Experience with product testing and validation.
• Proficiency in creating technical documentation and managing BOMs.
