Development Scientist – Polymers (R&D)

About the role

We are seeking a Development Scientist to join the polymers and materials R&D team of a leading high‑performance chemicals manufacturer in Liverpool. The role will focus on creating and optimising polymer formulations for electronic applications, supporting portfolio growth and market expansion.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and project‑manage new and existing polymer formulation products from concept through to commercial launch.
• Lead R&D projects across the full product development lifecycle, ensuring compliance with ISO standards and effective stakeholder communication.
• Scale formulations from laboratory bench work to pilot production and full‑scale manufacturing, collaborating with engineering, operations and quality teams.
• Test and evaluate formulations using a range of analytical and physical techniques to drive product performance and quality improvements.
• Identify continuous‑improvement opportunities in laboratory, testing and manufacturing processes while maintaining safety, risk assessment and documentation standards.

Required profile

• Degree in Chemistry or a related discipline (PhD or post‑doctoral experience preferred).
• Recent experience formulating products in the chemicals, polymers, coatings or speciality chemicals industry.
• Willingness to relocate to or commute within the Merseyside area.
• Full right to work in the United Kingdom.

Required skills

• Formulation development of polymer‑based products.
• Rheology knowledge (advantageous but not essential).
• Use of analytical and physical testing techniques for material evaluation.
• Understanding of ISO standards and documentation requirements.
